I struggled as PM because I lacked these skills #3

There are skills every Project Manager is expected to have like planning, managing risks, managing stakeholders, etc.
But there are also competencies I had to learn the hard way…
The ones nobody clearly tells you about, yet they make a huge difference in how effective you really are as a Project Manager.

These skills are rarely listed in job descriptions, yet they often define whether a Project Manager struggles or thrives; they all made me far more effective than any tool or template ever did.

My favorite one… CRITICAL THINKING

Critical thinking is not about being negative.
It’s about not accepting things “just because someone said so”.
In my daily work, it means asking simple but often uncomfortable questions:
Why do we really need this?
What problem are we trying to solve?
What happens if we don’t do it?
What do the data actually show?

CRITICAL THINKING helps identify risks earlier, challenge unrealistic assumptions, and protect the real value of the project not just deliver tasks.

Without critical thinking, a Project Manager coordinates.
With critical thinking, a Project Manager makes decisions.

Do you see the difference?

Want to be trusted with strategic projects? Start thinking critically.
